ESG: every action counts

Now that everyone is talking about ESG, I decided to pause for a moment and put on this page a few reflections about the impact it has had on me.

I created this “MY ESG Commitment” page to highlight a simple truth: we do not need to be extreme environmentalists or uncompromising advocates to take meaningful steps toward a more sustainable, just, and transparent world. I’m neither a strict ESG devotee nor someone who lives by candlelight, growing my own vegetables. I’m just a regular person, raised by two parents who taught me to respect nature, value diversity, and appreciate honest communication. This upbringing shaped my belief that even ordinary individuals can influence positive change through countless small actions.

Over the years, my personal and professional experiences have guided me toward a deeper understanding of how sustainability, social responsibility, and good governance can shape our present and future. I remember attending one of the earliest “Ecomanagement” trainings at the University of Pavia in 1997, which awakened me to the importance of responsible resource management. Later, through amateur and professional PADI certifications, I embraced the PADI AWARE philosophy, contributing to marine conservation efforts and understanding how local actions can have global impacts.

My involvement in ecological days, underwater clean-ups, and support for organizations like Sea Shepherd helped me see that meaningful results often come from teamwork and shared values. As an entrepreneur and publisher, I prioritized environmental concerns in my endeavors. From founding ScubaPortal and ScubaZone—focusing on digital formats to reduce waste—to writing books that reflect a commitment to ethical marketing and transparent communication, I strove to integrate these values into my work. I’ve even incorporated this perspective into sustainable energy use, digital archiving, and mindful transportation choices.

By setting forth this page, I aim to show that everyone’s contribution counts. It doesn’t require radical lifestyle changes or legal obligations. Each choice—no matter how small—can ripple outward, positively affecting communities, ecosystems, and future generations.

I hope these insights inspire others, including my son, to walk their own paths of responsibility and respect, making the world a bit better with each step.
